POSITION PURPOSE:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri is seeking a dedicated and visionary Program Director to lead our new mentoring program and contribute to the realization of our mission. The Program Director will play a critical role in overseeing program operations, ensuring that our evidence-based mentoring model is effectively implemented, and maintaining a strong commitment to the youth we serve and their families. This program is designed to empower and uplift young men from racially marginalized communities within the city of St. Louis. Our program begins at age 10 and continues through high school and beyond. We provide holistic development and build supportive, caring relationships, with young men on their journey to build a greater sense of agency, self-efficacy, and a sense of ownership in their lives and communities. Core Job Responsibilities

Leads and Trains Mentoring Managers:

  • Train, supervise, and support a team of full-time, professional mentors who will work directly with mentees to provide guidance, support, and advocacy.
  • Support staff in all aspects of the work
  • Meet individually with members to identify successes and challenges experienced. Create processes to track and improve employee progress.
  • Create strategic development plans for the newly formed department, including both group and individuals. Consider the skills for individual and team development and create pathways to learning.
  • Ensure each Mentoring Manager supports a caseload of 10 youth.

Plans and Outlines New and Effective Mentoring Program:

  • Partners with mentors to ensure that mentees receive comprehensive support for their holistic development, including cognitive behavioral interventions, self-efficacy and identity building, academic preparation, and postsecondary guidance.
  • Oversee the program's effective implementation, including providing intentional mentoring, wraparound support, and systemic partnerships.
  • Drives plan for local growth of mentoring program in the city of St. Louis to achieve service to approximately 200 young men in St. Louis.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities with schools for expansion of mentoring program.
  • Designs and defines mentoring experience expectations.
  • Develops job description of and hires Mentoring Managers.

Collaborates with External Partners and Agency Departments in Development of New Mentoring Model:

  • Collaborate with other social service providers for case management on family-level issues, such as housing, healthcare, and basic needs, to address the broader needs of mentees and their families.
  • Marketing and Communications for development of materials related to program.
  • Enrollment for partnership in interview process for youth, families and mentors.
  • School partners to gain feedback on best practices and areas of improvement to group mentoring model.
  • Work with colleagues to create policies and procedures that support mentoring program.
  • Determine and monitor the outcomes and impacts tracked on a quarterly basis.
  • Establish process for utilization of agency database for documentation of work.


Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Technology/computer skills needed. Proficient in the following platforms: MS Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, & Teams); Outlook and Zoom. Experience using data management systems is required. Must have comfort with learning new cloud-based applications.
  • Flexible work hours to meet the needs of team members, schools, and community partners, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary will be based upon professional and academic experience.
  • Immediate and 100% employer-paid coverage on employee health and dental insurance.
  • Life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance following the first ninety days of employment.
  • 401(k)–3% match per year following first year of employment.
  • .625 cents reimbursement on business miles and 100% of out-of-office parking for business meetings, etc.
  • Employer paid daily parking in covered garage.
  • After 90 days staff will receive 5 days of paid vacation and 10 days of paid vacation after one year of service.
  • Accrue 1 day per month of sick leave (can also be used for family illnesses)–can carry up to 30 days of sick leave.
  • 2 personal days per year following the first ninety days of employment.
  • Annual raises based on performance, culture and agency's ability.
  • 11 paid holidays.
