Practicum Opportunity

Position: Practicum Opportunity

POSITION PURPOSE: Provide relationship support for mentoring relationships to ensure child safety, positive impacts for children, trusting and enduring relationships and a strong sense of affiliation with BBBSEMO. Requires strong ability to build and maintain relationships, a high degree of independent judgment, and efficient time management.

Position Outcomes/Goals

Match Support

  • Complete monthly and quarterly check ins with Guardians, Volunteers, and Littles
  • Complete any follow-up necessary to ensure the safety of each match.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all contacts to ensure the safety of all Littles and to meet agency compliance goals.
  • Ensure early identification of child safety concerns by coaching, reporting, and accessing resources.
  • Ensure early identification of match endurance concerns and address through coaching, conflict resolution, appreciating, and training.

Resource fulfillment and follow-up

  • Identifies current resources and collaborates with Parent and Families for connection and resource fulfillment
  • Complete Holiday Assistance appointments and required follow-up with BBBS eligible families

Match Introductions

  • Facilitate in-person initial introduction with Caregivers, Little's, and Volunteers.
  • Create a fun and energetic experience while also ensuring agency guidelines and policies are explained

Site Based Program Facilitation- seasonal

  • Assists with supervision and facilitates weekly afternoon programs with Bigs and Littles at our partner schools.
    • This includes activity planning, completion of Match support, and documentation
  • Oversee site supervision, match support, and activity facilitation

Implement Program Policies according to National and Agency standards

  • Apply child safety and endurance knowledge when assessing potential volunteers, parents, guardians and clients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data in electronic and physical files.

EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Educational Level: Minimum of 2-year college education in a related field - master's level student preferred but not required.

Ideal Candidate would have:

  • Interest in child development and/or case management required.
  • Interest in working with adult populations, specifically Parents/Caregivers & Volunteers.
  • Interest in working with a diverse population.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient in the following platforms: MS Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, & Teams); Outlook, & Zoom.
  • Flexible work hours to meet the needs of youth, families, and volunteers, including nights and weekends.
  • Must have a car, valid driver's license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums.
  • Routine office/school environment.

Terms of Practicum/Internship Opportunity

This is a two-semester opportunity. 15-20 hours per week availability.

This practicum can be used for school credit or strictly for professional development.

If University/Program has Practicum agreement with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, agency will work to qualify this experience for Practicum credits. BBBSEMO has MSW staff and volunteers to work directly with Social Work students needing a Practicum Advisor with MSW credentials.
